TranSoft Labs History
1978: Dennis Walker’s brother Robin, bought our first computer in 1978. It is a Commodor Pet 2001. It is out in the shed still in it’s original shipping carton. It hasn’t been plugged in in 20 years or so but did work when last stored.
From 1978 to 1985, the Pet was one of my main computer toys. I basicly had such a strong hobby that I didn’t develop socially in any significant way. I didn’t have a significant girlfriend or get married till 1986. During this time I owned most every type of Commodor computer there was and worked with and on friends computers including Apple, Atari, IBM, etc.
Around 1985 my world changed significantly:
- I got out of the military.
- I had to get a real job.
- I got married.
- I registered and started TranSoft Labs as a business.
TranSoft Labs was started to write software for the Commodor Amiga computer. I actually never made any money doing this and had to get a real job installing home and business security systems. I still kept my computer hobby but at a reduced level as I had a family and children.
In 1989 I got a job in Indianna as a technical writer but since I was the computer expert in an office with a staff of about 25, one of my collateral duties was to design purchase and maintain the growing computer infrastructure.
In 1990 I bought my first PC. It had 1 Meg of RAM and a 40 Meg hard drive. I filled up the hard drive the first night.
In 1993 I got laid off and wound up moving back to Texarkana. TranSoft Labs then started doing Computer Consulting and maintenance in Texarkana. Primary customers were Real Estate related and I wound up writing a program that downloaded the MLS database on a local PC and allowed the user to search and create Market Analisis.
Around 1994 when Apple released 8 new models of computers within a month, We decided to drop support of Macs.
Around 1996 it became clear that the internet was going to become intregal in the computer world and we started supporting internet services.
The business expanded and provided service and custom programs to all kinds of business in the Texarkana area till 1999.
In 1999 I was offered a job that pretty well solved all my financial issues and I went to work full time for CHRISTUS Saint Michael Hospital. I started as the design and install person for the new EMR system that St. Michael was selling to doctors offices in 5 states. They ran via Citrix from initially 2 data centers. I became the Citrix and remote access goto person for the company with 32000 network devices.
In 2009 my financal situation changed and I quit St. Michael and started TranSoft Labs full time again.
TranSoft Labs has been supplying computer related services in Texarkana since 1985. In 1995 it became clear that the internet would be an important part of the computer industry and we began exploring ways to help our customers take advantage of the web. Early in 1999 we changed our focus to web hosting and related services. We still do some computer consulting on a limited basis. We have been working on making each service we offer, customized and low cost. This has meant many changes in policy over the last few years but we are now fairly stable and can handle most all your hosting needs. TranSoft Labs designs, maintains and services small business computer networks including servers, switches, wiring, PCs, and associated hardware. TranSoft Labs hosts web sites, email and other web services for small business.
